Monks Defeat Bulldogs for Ninth Straight Victory

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (18-7, 14-0 GNAC) capped the 2023-24 regular season with a 73-26 triumph over Dean College (2-22, 0-14 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball action on Saturday. The Monks head into the postseason riding a nine-game winning streak and have secured the top seed in the conference tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's dominated play from the start and led by a 24-0 margin after shooting 50% (10-20) from the floor and forcing 10 Bulldog turnovers in the first quarter. The Monks extended their lead to 30-0 when senior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) drilled a three-pointer at the 8:52 mark of the second stanza.

The Bulldogs did not score their first points until 30 seconds later when Kendrah Doane hit a three-pointer to make it a 30-3 game.

The Monks held a 44-12 lead at the break and claimed a game-high 49-point (71-22) cushion when junior Mackenzie Currie (Merrimac, Mass.) connected on a free-throw attempt with 4:47 left in the fourth frame.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's scored 29 points off 26 Dean turnovers and received 35 bench points in today's triumph.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sophomore Madison Lebel (Hermon, Maine) scored a game-high 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and a 4-for-5 effort from the FT line
  • Hurley scored 12 points off a 4-for-6 shooting effort from beyond the arc with two rebounds in just 12 minutes on the floor
  • Senior Hailey Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) scored nine points with five rebounds
  • Sophomore forward Grace Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) added six points and seven rebounds in 12 minutes
  • Freshman Abby Dube (Groveland, Mass.) chipped in with five points, six rebounds, and two steals

LEADERS – DEAN:

  • Tori Viau came off the bench to net nine points with three boards and two steals
  • Doane was 2-for-3 from three-point range with six points, two assists, and two steals

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 2-0 all-time versus Dean College.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's, the top seed in the GNAC Tournament, will host a conference quarterfinal on Tuesday against the winner of Monday's play-in game featuring #9 Johnson & Wales University and #8 Rivier University. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 PM.
