PORTLAND, Maine-St. Joseph's College of Maine golfer Drew Mathieu captured medalist honors with an impressive 2-under-par 70 at the University of Southern Maine's Husky Classic, held at Riverside Golf Course in Portland, Maine. Mathieu's stellar performance topped a field of 38 competitors, securing his first individual victory of the 2024 fall season by a two-stroke margin.
Mathieu showcased remarkable consistency, recording 10 straight pars before birdieing the 11th hole. Despite a bogey on the 12th, his only one of the day, he rebounded with two more birdies and four pars down the stretch, edging out USM's Jaden Poirier and Nichols College's Luke Sargent, both of whom finished with even-par 72s.
Mathieu's effort contributed to the Monks' season-best team score of 317, placing them 4th out of eight teams. The event presented a challenge as players contended with cooler temperatures and windy conditions, marking their first experience with fall weather on the course.
