STANDISH, MAINE - Saint Joseph's College men's
soccer won its second straight game, defeating visiting Mitchell
College, 2-1. The Monks improve to 3-4-1 on the season while
Mitchell stands at 4-5.
Chris Flaherty scored just four minutes into the match to give
Mitchell a 1-0 lead that held up until the 76th minute of the
match. St. Joe's was unable to capitalize on a good scoring
opportunity midway through the first half as freshman Kevin
Melega (Easthampton, MA) headed a pass from senior
Dave Rosquete (Auburn, ME) into the post.
Senior Joe Valente (Franklin, MA) tied the game at
75:18 on a penalty kick and junior Harrison Deah
(Monrovia, Liberia) scored the game winner at 86:55. Deah took a
pass from junior Kevin Hageman (Albion, ME) and
after beating his man, scored in the top left corner of the
goal.
Senior Brice Greenleaf (Bar Harbor, ME) played
well on defense, isolating Mitchell's top forward while sophomore
David Hakes (Whitefield, NH) helped create good
scoring opportunities from the midfield.
Senior keeper Brian White (Colebrook, NH) had
three saves for the Monks.
The team returns to action on Monday, Oct. 3, in a home contest
against Endicott College at 3:30 pm.
