Saint Joseph's Falls at Suffolk, 64-49

BOSTON, Mass. – Suffolk University (14-6, 6-1 GNAC) defeated Saint Joseph's College (13-7, 6-1 GNAC), 64-49, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball action on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The conference rivals essentially traded blows in the first quarter as Suffolk held a 14-11 lead after the opening 10 minutes, but the Rams kicked off the second stanza with 10 unanswered points to claim a 24-11 cushion and proceeded to hold a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the contest.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Suffolk scored 18 points off 16 SJC turnovers and held the advantage in field goals (25-18) and three-pointers (11-7) in the triumph.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • The Monks featured 11 different scorers, but none hit double-digits as sophomore guard Sophie Giardina (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman guard Bri Jordan (Gray, Maine) led the way with eight points apiece

LEADERS – SUFFOLK:

  • Alexis Hacket was 6-for-12 from three-point distance with 22 points and seven rebounds
  • Jenni-Rose DiCecco scored 13 points with eight assists, seven boards, and three steals
  • Allie Lopes notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 14-8 all-time versus Suffolk University and falls to the Rams for the first time since February 17th, 2015 as a string of eight-consecutive victories comes to a close. For the Monks, tonight's loss is the team's first at the hands of a conference opponent in the regular season since February 11th, 2015 when Rivier University defeated the Royal Blue by a 66-61 margin. St. Joe's entered tonight's action having won 36-consecutive regular season GNAC contests.
