Monks Shoot Past AMCATS, 76-46

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (12-3, 6-1 GNAC) defeated Anna Maria College (2-9, 1-4 GNAC), 76-46, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks kicked off the contest with a 12-0 run, capped by a Hannah Talon (Windham, Maine) three-pointer with 5:28 left in the first frame, but the early cushion dwindled quickly as the AMCATS rallied with a 20-8 burst to knot the game at 20-apiece with 8:40 left in the second stanza.

Anna Maria claimed their first – and only, as it played out - lead of the game four minutes later when freshman forward Marinique Reddin (Tampa, Fla.) converted a traditional three-point play to lift her squad to a 26-25 edge. St. Joe's regained the advantage on the ensuing possession when sophomore guard Hailey Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) drilled a three-pointer.

With the tilt tied 28-28 with 4:12 before the break, the Monks registered an 11-4 run to stake a 39-32 lead going into intermission. Junior forward Jayne Howe (Pembroke, Mass.) netted six points during the SJC outbreak.

Saint Joseph's proceeded to put the game out of reach with a dominant third quarter, as the hosts outscored the visitors by a 21-9 margin while shooting 56.3% (9-16) from the field in the penultimate period.

After a highly competitive first half, the AMCATS managed to score just 14 points while shooting 18.2% (6-33) from the floor in the latter two quarters.

MILESTONE MET:

Tonight's contest was the 800th career game for SJC Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83, who has a 592-208 (.740) record in 30 seasons as a college women's basketball skipper.

The Monks outshot the AMCATS by a wide margin, as the hosts posted a 46.9% (30-64) effort from the field while the visitors converted 19-of-69 shots for a 27.5% rate from the floor.
