Saints Edge Monks in OT 82-80

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Sophomore forward Allison Wild (Tewksbury, Mass.) netted a layup with 0.6 seconds left in overtime to lift Emmanuel College (17-1, 12-0 GNAC) past Saint Joseph's College (14-4, 8-2 GNAC), 82-80, in a hotly contested Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball matchup on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's trailed 72-67 with just six seconds left in regulation but managed to tie the game and force extra play. Sophomore guard Nina Howe (York, Maine) drilled a three-pointer with three seconds on the clock to make it a 72-70 game and junior forward Jayne Howe (Pembroke, Mass.) knotted the score at 72 with a layup and 1.9 seconds left. After a timeout, Emmanuel had a chance to walk off with the win but a three-point attempt by Korie Mathis (Duluth, Ga.) missed the mark.

The Monks trailed by five (80-75) with 2:52 left in overtime but again tied the game, as Jayne Howe hit a jumper and at the 2:26 mark and sophomore guard Hannah Talon (Windham, Maine) drained a trifecta with 1:04 to play. With two seconds left the Monks missed a layup and, after a timeout to advance the ball beyond midcourt, the Saints earned the win in dramatic fashion as graduate guard Jamad Fiin (Boston, Mass.) lofted a perfect pass under the hoop to Wild, who got behind a defender and dropped in the easy bucket.
