Saint Joseph's Defeats Norwich, 75-47

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Saint Joseph's College (15-4, 9-2 GNAC) defeated Norwich University (8-9, 6-4 GNAC), 75-47, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's held a 12-9 edge after shooting just 25% (5-20) from the floor in the first quarter but picked up the pace in the second stanza, as the Royal Blue opened the frame with a 15-4 run to claim a 27-13 lead with 4:29 before the break.

After shooting 57.1% (8-14) from the field in the second quarter, the Monks held a 37-23 cushion going into intermission.

St. Joe's held Norwich to a 12.5% (2-16) shooting effort in the third period and led by at least 24 points for the duration of the fourth quarter.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks shot 58.9% (23-39) over the final three quarters and 47.5% (28-59) overall…The Cadets countered by shooting 34.5% (19-55) in the setback.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Senior guard Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) led all scorers with 18 points off a 7-for-11 shooting effort and pulled down a team-high six rebounds
  • Junior forward Jayne Howe (Pembroke, Mass.) tallied nine points, five rebounds, and two assists
  • Sophomore guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) added nine points, four boards, three assists, and a pair of steals
  • Sophomore guard Nina Howe (York, Maine) came off the bench to contribute eight points, five rebounds, and four assists
  • Senior guard Grace Philippon (Glenburn, Maine) chipped in with seven points, five rebounds, and five assists
  • Sophomore guard Hailey Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) scored eight points with three boards and a pair of assists

LEADERS – NORWICH:

  • Junior guard Brittany Graham (Rye, N.H.) scored 13 points with five rebounds
  • Sophomore guard Rachel Botala (Grand Isle, Vt.) came off the bench to score 13 points
  • Sophomore guard Silas Bernier (Jaffrey, N.H.) pulled down seven rebounds

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the result, Saint Joseph's improves to 14-6 all-time versus Norwich University and has now defeated the Cadets in eight-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2015-16 campaign.
