STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-1-1, 3-0-0 GNAC) rallied from a 1-0 deficit with three unanswered goals to defeat Regis College (1-2-0, 1-1-0 GNAC), 3-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Regis struck first with a beautiful header goal from senior Javin Stickney (Gorham, Maine) in the 25th minute. Sophomore Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) lofted a pass into the box from the left side and was credited with the assist.

The Monks answered 10 minutes later when junior Rion Dos Santos (São Paulo, Brazil) finished a long run across the field into the right side of the box with a shot to the bottom left corner.

Saint Joseph's broke the deadlock almost immediately in the second half, as junior Gus Ford (Falmouth, Maine) converted a penalty kick attempt with a shot to the bottom right corner at the 47:21 mark. The PK bid was awarded after a Regis defender was flagged for a handball violation in the box.

St. Joe's tacked on an insurance strike in the 74th minute when freshman Divin Mpinga (Kinshasa, DRC) broke free on a breakaway on the left side and steered a shot into the top left corner.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (14-6), shots on goal (8-3), and corner kicks (6-2) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Liam Foley (Middleton, Mass.) made a pair of stops in the victory. The Pride utilized a pair of goalies in a losing bid, with sophomore Ethan Donahue (Methuen, Mass.) taking the loss after making a save and yielding two goals in the second half and freshman Kaleb Russo (Brookfield, N.H.) posting three saves in the first stanza.

Regis also notched a team save at the 5:29 mark when sophomore back William Comeiro (Woburn, Mass.) cleared a Ford shot off the line.
